Anthony Ondo, 23, a student at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, has turned beekeeping into a tuition‑funding business. Managing more than 50 hives across western Pennsylvania, Ondo harvests honey twice a year and sells it to cover school fees, alongside small scholarships and one federal loan.

Student Expands Beekeeping Enterprise

He began beekeeping after high school, inspired by a friend’s grandfather’s apiary, and launched his own business in 2024. Scaling up, he negotiated with property owners to host hives, offering honey as payment, and partnered with local farms and cafés. Ondo also oversees apiaries at Chatham’s Eden Hall campus, embodying sustainable entrepreneurship.
