BANGKOK, Aug 31, 2026 – A bar manager in Thailand has sparked outrage after being filmed shaving a female customer’s head for allegedly failing to pay a bill of 60,000 baht (S$2,306).

The incident, revealed by Chalida Phalamat of the Pen Nueng Foundation, occurred on Aug 25 and was captured in footage uploaded on Aug 27. The manager accused the woman of using a fake identity card to enter the venue and claimed she had previously avoided paying bills elsewhere. He later took her to a police station and made her sign an agreement to sell her hair for 3,000 baht (S$115).

Chalida condemned the act as “excessive and unlawful,” questioning whether the woman’s consent was genuine and why the bar had not filed a police report instead. She also raised concerns about the woman’s age and welfare, urging the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to investigate.

The woman’s mother disputed the bar’s account, saying she offered to pay in instalments but was rejected. She alleged her daughter suffered bruising and planned to lodge a police report at Bang Yai Khan station. The case has drawn widespread criticism over abuse of power and treatment of vulnerable individuals.
