Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the government will increase the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) assistance rate in the near future, signalling continued efforts to ease cost-of-living pressures. He said the move is part of broader targeted subsidy reforms aimed at supporting lower- and middle-income households more effectively.
SARA Assistance Boost Expected as Cost-of-Living Pressures Persist
Anwar explained that the adjustment will be implemented once fiscal conditions allow, ensuring that government spending remains sustainable while still addressing immediate public needs. He emphasised that targeted aid mechanisms are crucial to avoid leakages and ensure assistance reaches the most vulnerable groups directly.
The Prime Minister added that the government is continuously reviewing economic indicators, including inflation trends and wage growth, before finalising the increase. The initiative reflects Putrajaya’s commitment to balancing fiscal discipline with social protection, especially as households continue to face rising living costs and economic uncertainty.
