Economists: Trump Tariffs to Trigger Global Consumer Pain
The survey of 1,340 experts from 121 countries found average expected tariffs of 30% in Middle Africa, 21% in South Asia, 11% in East Asia, and just 7% in Oceania. Economists believe domestic consumers will shoulder 54% of the tariff burden, while foreign and local producers absorb the rest.
Despite tariff hikes, inflation forecasts remain steady at 4% globally, though some regions, like North Africa, expect rates above 40%.
