Two men have claimed trial to posting extremely offensive comments against Tuanku Muhriz on social media, Bernama reported. Abdullah Aidid Mochtar @ Ahmad Duta, 44, who is unemployed, and graphic designer Ashadi Zul’izzi Zainal Abidin, 46, entered their pleas before Judge Muhammad Ilmami Ahmad at the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur on Friday (Oct 30).

Offensive Posts on TikTok and Threads

Each man faces one charge of creating and initiating the transmission of extremely offensive communications with intent to offend.

Abdullah is accused of posting the content on TikTok through the account “rookiebenz_albenzauto” at 11.27pm on Aug 1. Ashadi is alleged to have done so on Threads using the account “razakahmad725” at 2.39pm on Aug 4. According to Bernama, the posts were later viewed at Jalan Dutamas Seroja 5, Taman Segambut, in Kuala Lumpur.

Both were charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, punishable under Section 233(2). Bernama said the offence carries a maximum fine of RM500,000, up to two years in jail, or both, as well as a further fine of RM5,000 for every day the offence continues after conviction.

Court Allows Lower Bail

Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) prosecuting officer Nazrul Nizam Mohd Zameri offered bail of RM15,000 with one surety for each accused.

Neither man was represented by a lawyer. Both asked for a lower amount, with Abdullah telling the court he lost his job after the case and had been out of work for three months. Ashadi said the sum sought by the prosecution was more than he could afford.

The court allowed each of them bail of RM12,000 with one surety and fixed Dec 1 for the next mention of the case.
