Ustazah Charged With Molestation of Student

IPOH, Sept 28, 2026 – A religious teacher, Haslina Abu Bakar, 48, was charged at the Sessions Court today with three counts of committing sexual acts against a 16‑year‑old male student two years ago. She pleaded not guilty before Judge Ainul Sharin Mohamad.

Haslina, a mother of six, was accused of kissing the boy in November 2024, hugging him a month later, and forcing him to touch her chest, all allegedly for sexual purposes. The incidents were said to have taken place in the Islamic Education room of a secondary school in Kinta around 3.30pm.

The charges were brought under Sections 14(a) and 14(b) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carry a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment and possible whipping if convicted.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Arfahanim Azureen Arfanuddin opposed bail, citing the seriousness of the offences and Haslina’s position as the victim’s teacher. Defense lawyer Amira Sofea An‑Nur Ahmad requested minimum bail, noting Haslina’s health issues, her husband’s condition, and her role as the family’s sole breadwinner.

The court granted bail of RM10,000 with one surety and set Oct 28 for mention and document submission.
