KUALA LUMPUR – PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has unilaterally reappointed Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin as Opposition Leader, abruptly replacing Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar without consulting the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Supreme Council.

Hadi justified the sudden pivot by claiming the choice has backing from a majority of opposition MPs. The controversial move fuels long-standing public perceptions that Dr. Samsuri is merely a passive front for PAS’s top clerical leadership,lacking the political aggression required for cut-throat politics.
The realignment follows Hamzah launching a new entity, Parti Wawasan Negara, signalling that PAS may favor puppet-master control over future leadership instead of actively seeking the Prime Minister post. But analysts are asking whether it is a PAS attempt to control who can be PM in the future, or PAS has resigned to the fact that it will be very difficult for a PAS member to become PM?
