KUALA LUMPUR: Analysts believe Barisan Nasional (BN) could emerge stronger if tensions between PAS and Bersatu within Perikatan Nasional (PN) worsen ahead of the next general election. Political observers said cracks within PN, including disputes over leadership and direction, may weaken opposition coordination and split Malay votes.
PAS-Bersatu Rift
They noted Bersatu remains heavily dependent on PAS machinery, while PAS could survive independently in Malay heartland seats. However, a breakup could hurt both parties in mixed constituencies. Analysts also warned that Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin’s “Reset” movement may further destabilise Bersatu and reshape the balance of power within PN.
