Growing Calls for Rafizi to Step Down Ahead of Party Decision on His Status

KUALA LUMPUR – A larger group of demonstrators has gathered to call on former Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli to step down from politics, accusing him of spreading misinformation and misleading voters in Pandan ahead of the 16th General Election (GE16).

Political activist Faizan Mohd Nor said the increased turnout reflects rising public concern, noting that his group received numerous requests from individuals wanting to join the demonstration and voice dissatisfaction over Rafizi’s actions, particularly towards Pandan voters.

Calls for Rafizi to Step Down

“Those present today want to send a clear message that Rafizi Ramli has failed after being entrusted with power as both a Member of Parliament and a minister. They are calling on him to stop making misleading statements and unfulfilled promises, especially to the people of Pandan,” he said.

He added that more demonstrations could take place in the future, potentially involving thousands of participants, particularly from Pandan, if similar concerns persist.

Previously, a small group of around 10 individuals staged a protest outside the office of Invoke Solutions Sdn Bhd and submitted a memorandum urging Rafizi to withdraw from politics.

Meanwhile, PKR founder Ng Lum Yong, who was present in support of the demonstration, said Rafizi’s increasingly aggressive statements risk sending the wrong message and confusing the public.

“His statements appear to serve personal interests rather than the broader goal of safeguarding the nation,” he added.

On the other hand, Rafizi has challenged PKR to expel him after a 2nd show-cause letter was sent to him.

Rafizi said this while responding to an April 9 letter from PKR’s disciplinary board, which outlined several alleged infractions which had allegedly tarnished the party’s name.

In his reply, Rafizi called on the board to make a firm and quick decision in determining his fate with the party, cautioning against “further delays” as the rakyat are “already nauseated”.
