Deadly FRU Crash: Lorry Exceeded Load by 70%, Had No GPS

The Ministry of Transport (MOT) revealed that the lorry involved in the deadly crash with a Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) truck in Teluk Intan last month was illegally carrying gravel—exceeding its permitted load by over 70%.

The lorry, licensed only to transport coal, was also not fitted with GPS, breaching multiple transport regulations. 

The May 13 accident killed nine FRU personnel and injured nine others. Investigations by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) are ongoing, and prosecution is expected. The report also blamed the FRU truck’s lack of seat belts and unsafe bench seating for the high fatality count.
