
Sam Ke Ting has requested permission to appeal the High Court’s judgement to sentence her to six years in prison and an RM6,000 fine for careless driving that resulted in the deaths of eight youths riding customised bicycles known as “basikal lajak.”
Her lawyer, Faizal Mokhtar told the media that she submitted a notice of request for leave to appeal and a motion to halt the execution of her sentence through the court’s e-filing system today. A certificate of urgency, he added, had also been filed.
Meanwhile, there has been an outpouring of support for the female driver who was freed twice for the same incident before by the courts. A petition to free her has so far garnered more than 730,000 signatures.
