New: No evidence of theft found says ex-auditor-general on TH

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26, 2026 – Ex-Auditor-General Madinah Mohamad has rejected criticism from the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on Tabung Haji, insisting that her audits complied with required standards and mandates.

Madinah, who served as Auditor-General from 2017 to 2019, said she and her team found no evidence of theft or misappropriation during their audits of Tabung Haji. “If my team had discovered such evidence, I would have highlighted it and referred it to the authorities. My mandate was very clear,” she said at the National Consultation Forum on Tabung Haji in Kuala Lumpur.

She stressed that audits were conducted according to professional standards, based on evidence before issuing reports or certificates. “We followed facts and evidence, grounded in reality,” she added.

Her remarks come after the RCI report, released on July 29, which highlighted governance failures, political interference, and questionable accounting practices between 2014 and 2020. The report criticized the National Audit Department for not conducting stricter audits of Tabung Haji’s financial statements between 2014 and 2017.

The RCI found that Tabung Haji should have recorded a net loss of RM1.4 billion in 2017 under proper accounting standards, instead of reporting a RM3.4 billion profit.
