Former Nurse Pleads Not Guilty to Adoption Scam Charge

A former nurse, Mahirah Mohd Yusof, pleaded not guilty to deceiving N. Jay Letchumy Naidu by offering a baby for adoption. The victim paid RM15,950 in instalments to Mahirah between January 20 and June 7 this year.

Former Nurse Pleads Not Guilty to Adoption Scam Charge

Charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Mahirah faces a minimum jail term of one year and a maximum of 10 years, whipping, and fines upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Hench Goh proposed RM6,000 bail, while lawyer Faris Ezani requested a lower bail. The court set bail at RM6,500 and scheduled a mention for February 13, 2025.
