SINGAPORE, Aug 27, 2026 – A GetGo car caught fire along Lornie Highway on Tuesday afternoon, prompting swift action from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). The blaze, which broke out near MacRitchie Reservoir, involved the engine compartment of the vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Footage shared online showed flames engulfing the bonnet area, with thick black smoke rising as the car burned on the road shoulder. SCDF said it was alerted at around 12pm and firefighters extinguished the fire using a hosereel.

Car-sharing operator GetGo confirmed it was informed of the incident and immediately dispatched a team to assist. A spokesperson said the company is taking the matter “very seriously” and has launched a thorough investigation to determine the cause. The affected user is also receiving support.

This marks the second reported fire involving a GetGo vehicle, following a similar incident in May 2025 along Upper Changi Road East. In that case, the car was being driven by workshop personnel and was not available for booking.

With investigations ongoing, authorities have yet to establish whether the latest fire was due to mechanical fault or other causes.
