KUALA LUMPUR — Nearly 3,000 Malaysian government employees were caught taking bribes over the past decade, according to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission data. Law Minister Azalina Othman Said told parliament that between 2015 and June 30, 2025, there were 6,585 bribery cases, involving 2,965 public servants and 1,101 private sector employees. Malays accounted for 75% of bribe-soliciting cases, while ethnically Chinese were most likely to pay bribes. Deputy House Speaker Ramli Mohd Nor suggested cash rewards for whistle-blowers, which Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he would consider. Malaysia ranks 57th in the global Corruption Perceptions Index, far behind Singapore at third.
