As Barisan Nasional (BN) has yet to decide whether to align with Perikatan Nasional (PN) or Pakatan Harapan (PH for the upcoming Melaka state election, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang expressed optimism that cooperation between BN and PN would be easier to achieve.
He confirmed that seat negotiations are ongoing and believes youth support will favor PN, as seen during the 2022 general election.
BN‑PN Cooperation Succeeded in Negeri Sembilan Polls – Hadi Awang
Hadi argued that parliamentary elections reflected a youth wave that benefited PN, noting statistics suggesting Umno could win only four seats if contesting alone.
He emphasized unity among Malays and Muslims, while also maintaining moderate ties with non‑Malays. “If Johor was more complicated, Melaka will be easier,” he said.
BN and PN previously cooperated in Negeri Sembilan, successfully forming government after winning 25 of 36 seats.
Some BN leaders, including Razlan Rafii, have suggested a “give and take” approach, allowing BN to dominate southern states while PN governs the east coast.
Hadi also revealed PAS has a “Plan B” should BN choose PH instead. He acknowledged divisions within BN leadership but insisted PN already has alternatives prepared.
