Initial investigation found insufficient evidence to charge LGE

1 min read

A Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer told the Sessions Court that initial investigations found insufficient evidence to charge former Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in the RM6.3 billion sea tunnel corruption case. Senior Officer Zulhilmi Ramli, 34, said he learned of this while part of a special task force in January 2020, before becoming the case’s investigating officer in June.

He testified that the file he received contained a memo stating the case against Lim was halted. Zulhilmi added that insufficient evidence must be reported to superiors so witnesses can be recalled to complete investigations.
