Negeri Sembilan Umno chief Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias has denied plotting to oust Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim, saying a no-confidence vote was never discussed at the state Umno leadership meeting.
Jalaluddin, who is the Pertang assemblyman and Jelebu MP, made the remarks after a Negeri Sembilan Umno liaison committee meeting at Wisma Umno in Seremban on Saturday (Nov 7), according to Malay Mail, which cited Utusan Malaysia. He also denied that there were factions within the party.
“Have you heard me say I want to bring down the menteri besar? No,” he was quoted as saying.
Negeri Sembilan MB says he remains in office
Ismail, when approached by reporters on Friday (Nov 6), said he was still the menteri besar as of that day and declined to comment further.
Talk of a leadership challenge was first reported last month by FMT, citing an unnamed source. Jalaluddin denied it at the time, while Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he would prevent any such move.
Audience with the ruler
Jalaluddin said his meeting with the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, was held at the ruler’s request, and that he would comply whenever he was summoned.
Ismail was sworn in as menteri besar on Aug 2 following the state election, in which Barisan Nasional won 18 seats, Pakatan Harapan 11 and Perikatan Nasional seven.
