Johor Immigration Arrests Foreign Beggars Earning Up to RM18,000/month in Night Market Raids

Following public complaints, the Johor Immigration Department conducted enforcement operations at two night markets on February 3, arresting 18 foreign beggars. The raids took place in Kampung Melayu Majidee and Taman Abad.

The beggars, aged between 40 and 69, included Chinese, Thai, Cambodian, Syrian, Bangladeshi, and Pakistani nationals. Some used their disabilities to gain sympathy and made up to RM600 per day, which is roughly RM18,000 a month. 

The beggars were taken to the Johor Immigration Department headquarters for investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1963. Datuk’ Hj Mohd Rusdi reminded all foreigners to abide by the rules and regulations.
