Prediction market platform Kalshi, led by CEO Tarek Mansour, has filed with the CFTC to launch contracts tied to flight cancellations at US airports. The idea would let users bet on percentages of canceled flights, turning travel disruptions into tradable events.

Kalshi listed FlightAware as its primary data source, but the company’s parent RTX said its data cannot be used for betting. While Kalshi argues the market could hedge travel risks, critics warn prediction markets enable insider trading. Lawmakers have proposed limits or bans, though Kalshi insists guardrails are in place to block misuse and protect integrity.
