PETALING JAYA, March 2 — Federal lawmakers across party lines are calling for simultaneous state and general elections to avoid repeated contests and political instability. PKR’s Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim said synchronised polls would provide clarity for voters and streamline campaigns.

Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong warned that staggered elections could disrupt investment decisions, while Umno’s Pontian MP Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan acknowledged the idea’s merits but noted challenges in aligning state terms. With Melaka’s assembly ending this year and Sarawak and Johor in 2027, discussions on a unified election date are urged.
