JOHOR BAHRU, July 5 – Former UMNO Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi has endorsed Maszlee Malik, Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for Puteri Wangsa, saying the ex‑education minister is “qualified to be an assemblyman” and that the state needs “assemblymen with brains.”

Puad, who recently backed Amanah’s Yazid Bakri in Rengit, acknowledged he would face criticism but insisted he had the right to campaign for Anwar Ibrahim’s coalition after leaving UMNO. He dismissed speculation of joining PKR or another party, stressing he has a “special mission.” Police are investigating him for sedition and defamation over a social media statement.
Prior to that, the former Umno man was asked by former colleagues to join DAP after left Umno in a jab against him for quitting the party and supporting PH.
