PADANG BESAR, May 30 — The government is studying the use of advanced monitoring technology to tackle the growing problem of railway cable theft, which continues to disrupt national rail services.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said cable theft should not be treated as an ordinary crime due to its impact on operations and public safety. He noted that theft incidents, particularly in northern Malaysia, have caused significant service disruptions and safety risks. The ministry is evaluating technological solutions to detect and prevent future incidents, describing the issue as one that affects both national and state security.
