Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamad Hassan, speaking at the Umno assembly, candidly addressed the party’s severe defeat in the last General Election. Hassan admitted that traditional strongholds like Labuan and Putrajaya fell, along with the situation in Pahang and Perak, were the results meant it insufficient for the party to form a government without coalition support.

He stated, “We have to accept and live with the fact that we have lost terribly… We keep saying Umno is sacred and very strong, yet we were rejected by the people of Malaysia.” He revealed that Umno, now with only 30 seats, faced dire moments but it was destiny that decided for the party to join a unity government with PH to remain influential and viable.
