KUALA LUMPUR – Former Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir has firmly rejected UMNO’s invitation for ex-members to return, citing the unresolved 1MDB scandal. He recalled being expelled alongside leaders such as Muhyiddin Yassin for criticizing 1MDB, despite assurances from then-president Najib Razak that funds would be recovered within six months. (NOTE: But Umno has ignored the scandal, doing as if it did not exist.)
Mukhriz
Mukhriz stressed that no apology has ever been issued to the people, even though the scandal led to Najib’s imprisonment. He added that his current party was legally registered through court orders, making a return to UMNO unlikely. Mukhriz emphasized the need to uphold UMNO’s original struggle elsewhere.
