PETALING JAYA: Informal talks between Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Barisan Nasional (BN) components MCA and MIC have been branded a desperate move for political survival. Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi said MCA, MIC, PAS, and Bersatu were “panicking” ahead of the next general election, still without a winning formula. Political analyst Azmi Hassan echoed the view, calling the potential partnership a “marriage of convenience”, with PN seeking non-Malay support and MCA/MIC in need of new allies. Puad warned that PN’s track record with non-Malay partners was poor, while Azmi said both sides ultimately seek electoral seat guarantees.
