KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 — The Government Procurement Bill 2025 sparked heated debate in the Dewan Rakyat, with Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim warning it grants “absolute power” to the finance minister, undermining reform efforts. Critics, including PN’s Saifuddin Abdullah, said the bill was rushed without proper consultation and raised concerns over conflicts with state procurement laws. However, Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin defended the bill, insisting it enhances transparency through a procurement board and tribunal, offering greater oversight than parliamentary committees. The proposed law aims to regulate tenders, contracts and payments, while critics fear unchecked ministerial authority.
