The opposition has questioned Putrajaya’s decision to spend RM16 billion on a 15-year rental of 28 AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters for security forces. Opposition Leader Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut) compared the deal to Poland’s purchase of 32 helicopters of the same model for only RM8.9 billion, arguing that Malaysia’s contract is excessively costly. He demanded an explanation on why the government opted for an expensive rental instead of outright purchase. Hamzah also revealed that he had previously rejected a similar rental proposal during his tenure as home minister, raising concerns over potential financial mismanagement in the deal.
