In Singapore, a rise in youth sexual offences, with over 460 arrests of individuals aged 19 and below in 2024, has been linked to early and repeated exposure to pornography, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). This figure aligns with 2023’s 470 arrests, a 30% increase from the prior year. Many young offenders, like a 17-year-old who filmed classmates without consent, lack awareness of boundaries due to pornography’s influence, often starting exposure as early as age 11. The MHA and Ministry of Education introduced two resource guides in November 2024—“DetACT Early” for early intervention and “Discern Online Sexual Harms” to address online pornography’s impact. Experts highlight distorted perceptions of relationships among youth, exacerbated by easy access to degrading content, dysfunctional family dynamics, and lack of guidance. Early education and intervention are emphasized to foster healthy relationships and curb harmful behaviors.
