A total of 606 tahfiz schools in Selangor have never been registered with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) since 2008, the State Legislative Assembly was told today. Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah highlighted the seriousness of the issue and the Sultan of Selangor’s decree for safety improvements in these schools.

Schools not complying with regulations face closure. A preliminary investigation into a student’s death at a KAFA school in Serdang has started, with the victim’s family receiving RM1,000 in aid. JAIS has also suspended teaching at the school following the incident.
