WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump has called for the Malaysian-born Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan to resign “immediately” following national security concerns raised by Republican Senator Tom Cotton. Cotton alleged Tan controls or has stakes in numerous Chinese tech firms, including some linked to the Chinese military, and cited his tenure at Cadence Design Systems when it illegally sold products to a Chinese military university. Tan is a tech veteran who became Intel’s CEO in March. Intel, long a Silicon Valley icon, has struggled against rivals TSMC, Samsung, and AI chip leader Nvidia. The company is also facing market challenges amid U.S. tariffs and export restrictions.
