Manchester United has reached an agreement with Atalanta to pay an initial fee of £64m for Rasmus Højlund, deviating from their earlier stance of not exceeding £60m for the forward. The total cost, including add-ons, will amount to £72m, and the Danish international is set to sign a five-year contract with the option for an additional year.
United’s decision on taking on Højlund
United’s decision to exceed their valuation of the player by £4m has sparked interest. This is especially considering Højlund’s lack of experience in English football, with last season being his first in a major European league, where he scored nine goals in 32 appearances.
The acquisition brings United’s summer spending close to £180m, and manager Erik ten Hag may consider further signings, with a defensive midfielder like Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat being a priority. After a goalless performance against Real Madrid, Ten Hag emphasized the need for attacking help and players capable of converting one-on-one situations.
United fans are excited to have the Danish man on board their team. They hope that he will be the best striker in the English Premier League. Furthermore, many are welcoming him to one of the best football teams in the world.
