A total of 63 deaths have been recorded in Malaysia due to hiking-related incidents over the past five years, according to the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry (NRES).

Authorities noted that factors such as poor preparation, lack of proper equipment, and unpredictable weather conditions contributed to many of the fatalities. Increased participation in outdoor activities has also raised overall risk levels.
Officials are urging hikers to follow safety guidelines, including registering trips and ensuring adequate preparation. Greater awareness and adherence to safety measures are seen as key to reducing future incidents.
