PUTRAJAYA, Aug 17, 2026 – DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke apologises to party delegates for failing to defend the Chennah state seat in the recent Negeri Sembilan election, acknowledging the setback as a personal and political disappointment.
Speaking at the DAP National Conference 2026 in Putrajaya, Loke said his candidacy was not about personal victory but about proving that DAP could secure support across diverse communities, including Malay-majority and Orang Asli constituencies. “I contested with the hope of showing that DAP can win in areas with mixed demographics. But the mission did not succeed,” he admitted.

Loke highlighted that while DAP gained some support among Malay voters, it remained limited at around 20–25 percent, with Orang Asli backing also falling short. He described this as a major challenge for the party’s future, stressing the need to break through racial barriers in Malaysian politics.
He reminded delegates that DAP’s struggle has never been about one race but about advancing all Malaysians. “For decades, we have faced accusations of being a party for only one community. The real challenge is dismantling racial politics that persist even after 60 years,” he said.
