Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim signaled the possibility of dissolving Parliament to call for the 16th General Election (GE16) earlier than expected if partners in the Unity Government continue to undermine political stability. He was speaking at the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Convention 2026 in Johor Bahru.
Early Dissolution
Anwar said UMNO and Barisan Nasional’s decision to contest all seats in Johor raised concerns about cooperation. He stressed that if allies choose confrontation, he would return the mandate to the people. While the final decision rests with the Prime Minister, Anwar pledged to consult PH leadership before taking drastic steps.
