New: Anwar Retains PKR Presidency, Deputy Race Heats Up

JOHOR BAHRU, May 13, 2025 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was re-elected unopposed as PKR president for his final term until 2028, following the close of nominations on May 9. The focus now shifts to the deputy president race, with Anwar’s daughter among the contenders. Some 10,000 delegates will vote in person at the PKR national, women’s, and youth congresses in Johor Bahru, Sabah, and Sarawak from May 22 to 24, while 20,000 will vote online. Dr Zaliha Mustafa, PKR’s election committee chairman, said 251 members are contesting various leadership roles for the 2025-2028 term.
