Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening relations with Sabah and Sarawak based on mutual respect and trust.

Anwar said the matter was discussed with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor during their meeting in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei.

The leaders also discussed preparations for the upcoming Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Implementation Action Council meeting, which is scheduled to take place in Kota Kinabalu within the next few weeks.

Anwar said the discussions also covered recent developments and efforts to strengthen cooperation between the Federal Government and both states.

He said the goal was to ensure greater prosperity and more balanced development for the people.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 27th Malaysia-Brunei Annual Leaders’ Consultation, where Malaysia and Brunei also agreed in principle to improve movement between both countries, including addressing immigration issues.
