MARANG, Aug 21, 2026 – PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang has warned that Perikatan Nasional (PN) is prepared to abandon cooperation with Barisan Nasional (BN) if the latter pursues an alliance with Pakatan Harapan (PH) for the upcoming Melaka state election.
Speaking after his Dhuha lecture at Masjid Rusila, Hadi said PN remains confident in its tactical options, though discussions with BN are still ongoing. “We have been informed that the BN leadership remains divided and hesitant, even though the majority of the party’s leaders agree that cooperation with PN should continue,” he remarked.

Hadi stressed that PN has developed strategies to consolidate the Malay-Muslim political bloc while engaging non-extreme non-Muslim parties. He added that negotiations for Melaka are expected to be smoother compared to the Johor state election held in July.
“The situation in the Johor state election was more complicated, but the path and conditions in Melaka are easier,” Hadi said, citing positive grassroots feedback and a shifting national political landscape.
