KUALA LUMPUR, July 19, 2026 – PKR’s Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim has called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to resign as Finance Minister following the RM200 million losses suffered by the Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP) in its investment in scandal‑hit Indonesian startup eFishery.
Anwar out
Hassan said KWAP’s board, investment panel and top management committed “great negligence” in governance, echoing concerns raised by other lawmakers. He urged forensic investigations and dismissal action if fiduciary errors are proven.
Anwar earlier told Parliament KWAP was deceived by manipulated financial reports, noting other global investors like Temasek and SoftBank were also victims. KWAP has initiated legal action to recover funds. Separately, Pejuang’s Sheikh Ikhzan Sheikh Salleh criticised Anwar for downplaying the scandal, questioning his reputation as “Asia’s Best Finance Minister.”
