In Parliament, the Ministry of Housing and Local Government disclosed 117 stalled projects involving 30,840 housing units, as of January 31st. Of these, 81 projects entail homes priced at RM300,000 or less.
Housing stagnation in Malaysia
Deputy Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu stated that among these, 23,031 units involve buyers. Thirteen projects fall within RM301,000 to RM500,000, with five between RM500,001 to RM750,000. Two projects range from RM750,001 to RM1 million, while 16 exceed RM1 million.
Aiman Athirah mentioned economic factors, like the pandemic, impacting high-priced homes’ demand. He noted no immediate need for a feasibility study on implementing a vacancy tax.
