Fake Prize Call Leaves Ipoh Woman in Debt
The victim, Tan, was tricked into believing she had won a RM3,000 prize, before the fraudsters remotely controlled her phone, made unauthorized purchases, and even took out a RM6,000 loan in her name.
Shocked to discover a Buy Now Pay Later charge of RM4,500, Tan refused repayment, insisting she never received the funds. Authorities are investigating under consumer fraud laws, while MCA’s Charles Yuen urged platforms to tighten security and reminded the public to ignore unofficial prize notifications.
