The Johor Bahru High Court ordered the government to pay RM400,815.45 to a 48-year-old dance instructor for medical negligence after a 2018 surgery at Sultan Ismail Hospital removed her ovaries and fallopian tubes. Justice Shamsulbahri Ibrahim awarded RM300,000 for pain and suffering, RM35,000 for lost earnings, and RM9,652.50 for treatment in India. The woman suffered complications, including a bladder injury and vesicovaginal fistula, requiring multiple surgeries. The government admitted liability. Represented by R Jayabalan and Christopher Tan, she won the suit filed in 2021, while Barath Manian appeared for the government.
