The media’s assertion that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officials are seconded to the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra) for fund supervision is denied by the MACC. To be clear, MACC says that its officers are not allowed to meet with other authorities.
MACC Denies seconding officers to Mitra
After concluding its investigation into the misuse of Mitra funds in 2019–2021, MACC prosecuted 12 cases, 10 of which are still pending, and two guilty pleas. For suspected anomalies in Mitra’s RM203 million grants, more than 300 organisations were investigated.
Mitra’s chairman, R Ramanan, had earlier noted that an official had been seconded to improve fund transparency, recognising MACC’s assistance in averting meeting mismanagement.
