MELAKA, June 8 – A 36‑year‑old married clerk was detained by the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) for alleged khalwat with a man at a house in Batu Berendam last Friday. JAIM enforcement officers raided the premises around 12.30am following a public tip‑off. Director Md Azhan Samat said the woman was found inside the house, while a 36‑year‑old single man was discovered hiding in an upstairs wardrobe. Both failed to produce documents proving a lawful relationship.

They were taken to JAIM’s office for documentation and investigation under Section 53 of the Melaka Syariah Offences Enactment 1991. Md Azhan stressed enforcement aims to educate society and prevent acts that could cause slander or contravene Islamic law.
