Modi Pushes ‘Vocal for Local’ After Trump Slaps 25% Tariffs on India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Indians to embrace “Swadeshi” and support locally-made products amid global economic uncertainty and the US imposing 25% tariffs on Indian exports. Speaking in Varanasi, Modi emphasised that promoting indigenous goods is the truest service to the nation.

He called on all citizens, political leaders, traders, and shopkeepers to buy and sell Indian-made products, especially during the festival and wedding seasons. 

Highlighting government efforts to boost farmers and small industries, Modi said consumer choices must align with national priorities. He also criticised the global trend of self-interest, stating India must safeguard its economy through conscious consumption.
