JOHOR BAHRU, July 12 – Onn Hafiz Ghazi was sworn in today as Johor Menteri Besar before the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, at the Audience Hall of Istana Bukit Serene. The ceremony began with the reading of the appointment letter by Johor State Secretary Mohammed Ridha Abd Kadir, followed by Onn Hafiz taking the oath of office. Present were Johor Council of the Royal Court president Dr Abdul Rahim Ramli and State Legal Adviser Abd Aziz Engan.

Onn Hafiz, who chairs Johor Barisan Nasional (BN), retained his Machap seat with a majority of 15,375 votes in the 16th Johor state election. BN secured 48 of 56 seats, giving the coalition a two-thirds majority. PH won eight seats, while PN, MUDA, Bersama, ASLI, PSM and independents failed to secure any. Security personnel and media gathered at the palace as Onn Hafiz’s vehicle arrived at 3.40pm.
