Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad urged the federal government to reconsider a RM20 million allocation to study the state’s mineral resources, particularly non-radioactive rare earth elements (NR-REE). 

Perak Seeks RM20 Million Federal Grant to Unlock Rare Earth Potential

The funding would support the Minerals and Geoscience Department in identifying viable sites, boosting Perak’s potential revenue. Six plots in Hulu Perak were approved for NR-REE mining, though only one is active as a pilot project. 

Saarani highlighted that 70–80% of reserves lie in forest areas and emphasized sustainable practices under the Perak Sejahtera 2030 plan. Since 2019, three illegal mining operations were uncovered, resulting in 31 arrests.
