Speaking on a Malaysiakini podcast aired April 18, 2025, Loke emphasized Sim’s potential as a next-generation leader, urging him to unite Penang DAP amid internal tensions. “I want you to have a longer runway,” Loke told Sim, highlighting the need for challenges to prove his leadership. Success in Penang could cement the rising star’s future; failure might derail it. The latter was placed 11th in the first-round election and was elected as one of the deputy secretary-generals in the subsequent round of internal selections.
