Two Singaporean men were among 20 offenders ordered to perform community service in Johor Bahru after being convicted of littering. Edmund Lim Hu Shen and Tan Boon Haw, both 38, were fined RM1,000 (S$323) each and sentenced to six hours of community service for throwing cigarette butts outside KSL City Mall on Jan. 3.

On Apr. 30, under enforcement supervision, they joined others in cleaning Jalan Pulai Bestari 7 Recreational Park. The men are the first Singaporeans charged under Malaysia’s littering laws. Offenders must complete service within six months. Johor has issued 822 notices, including 17 to Singaporeans.
