Two college students, both aged 19, were detained by Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) officers for allegedly committing khalwat at a hotel in Desaru, Kota Tinggi, over the weekend. The pair had reportedly deceived their families by claiming they were attending a university program during the public holiday, but instead spent time together at the hotel.

During inspections, officers found the woman dressed in a long T-shirt without pants, while the man was discovered unclothed in the bathroom. Investigations confirmed they were not married. Their parents later arrived to act as guarantors following the arrest.
